flagstaff / tuba city
tomorrow i leave flagstaff and head down to phoenix. this has been an interesting assignment. i enjoyed the work and the people i worked with but i hated the drive to and from flag to tuba city. i wouldn’t trade the experience though. what i am looking forward to is gaining the two to three hours of driving daily. it depended on who drove the van as to how long the drive took. i liked it...
snow
this was taken at the start of the snowfall. it was 5:15am and i was just heading out to catch the van. the flakes really did seem this big. it is beautiful out but certainly not fun to drive in.
the snow has arrived
the state of arizona is in a state of emergency. rain and flash floods in the southern portion. snow, snow and more snow in the high country. left work at noon yesterday and the van barely made it over the pass. no one was even going to attempt it today. so i am off today and not thrilled about it. fortunately i did make sure i had some food here. i can open the door but can’t find the...
the colors and textures of nature
when i was younger i used to think everything had to be color cooridinated. i don’t know when it happened but i finally started looking at nature and seeing the combinations of colors she puts together. thank you.
fatmans loop
my hike on sat was interesting. I decided to do a hike here in flag. this one was recommended to me by a friend. i started the trail with my hiking pants on backwards! had no intention of changing them. the trail was icy and snow packed and i am terribly afraid of falling and hurting my camera. so i am always careful. i ran into this gentleman while on the trail and he said i was almost 1/2 way...
snow expected
they are calling for another big snowfall here. i am not thrilled about that. i would much rather be somewhere on horseback enjoying some beautiful scenery and a gorgeous day.
i see a resemblance
i stopped into this shop up the street last weekend. i was really looking for a lighter when i realized i was in a native american gift shop. the owner was working hard on cleaning up this kachina from all the packing material that was in it’s cracks and crevices. i finally asked if he minded if i took his photo. he agreed and was willing to move his project to better lighting. i promised to...
summer and winter residents
the side of the mountain the caves were in determined when they would be used. east vs west …. summer vs winter.
walnut canyon
another great day here in flagstaff. wasn’t sure what i was going to do today other than make a lot of phone calls to clear up some business. finally decided to go to walnut canyon and do the island trail. 240 steps down to view cliff dwellings around 800 years old …. no problem. doing the same 240 steps back up …. big problem. i would stop by almost every informational post just...
the arrow marks the way
i wish they had arrows at the top of the mountain marking the trailhead as opposed to an arrow just marking the way the trail goes. Which was really obvious.
return to sedona
returned to sedona today for another hike. i like the solitude of the hikes there. i chose to go to doe mountain. the hike itself was not that hard. getting lost on the top of the mountain was a bit unnerving. i have to thank katie for recommending the hiking book 50 favorite hikes by cosmic ray. unfortunately it did not tell me to make sure i knew where the trailhead was. i aimlessly wandered the...
Happy New Years
i woke up to the start of a new year still in flagstaff. not a bad place to wake up really. it was a beautiful day and i decided to start off the new year with a walk. it wasn’t a long walk but it did me good. as for resolutions i don’t really make them. i do try to live a better life.
